The Sonoma County Fire District (SCFD), an incumbent ALS response/transport ambulance provider, was established in April 2019 after the consolidation of several fire districts: Windsor Fire Protection District, Rincon Valley Fire District (established in 1945), the Bennett Valley Fire District (established in 1948), and the Mountain Volunteer Fire Department (established in 1968). In July 2020, the Russian River Fire Protection District (established in 1922 as the Guerneville Fire Protection District) joined the Sonoma County Fire District. In July 2021, the Forestville Fire Protection District (established in 1938 and became a District in 1958) also became part of the Sonoma County Fire District. Then, in July 2022, the Bodega Bay Fire Protection District joined the Sonoma County Fire District.

We provide EMS services across more than 425 square miles of Sonoma County, offering cost-effective, patient-centered, and equitable prehospital care and transport services to the County's Urban, Suburban, and Rural areas, including historically underserved communities. Through our consolidated agencies, we have been providing these services for over 45 years. All of these Districts bring a rich history, and their milestones are now integrated into the new organization, contributing to the creation of a "new history" for SCFD.
