  • In October 2023, the Sonoma County Fire District (SCFD) and the County of Sonoma (County) executed a five-year agreement to designate SCFD as the exclusive provider of 9-1-1 emergency ambulance services (including response, medical care, and transportation) in defined areas in the County, referred to as “Exclusive Operating Area-1” (EOA-1). SCFD will begin providing emergency ambulance services on January 16, 2024. This agreement may be extended by the County for an additional five-year term

  • The County of Sonoma had previously contracted with another ambulance service provider. Sonoma County Fire District was selected by the County through a competitive bidding process to be the new service provider.

  • SCFD, through its predecessor districts, has a long history of providing emergency ambulance service to Sonoma County residents. SCFD will continue to provide emergency ambulance service within its boundaries, in addition to managing the new contract for service in EOA-1.

  • SCFD will oversee all aspects of the ambulance contract for EOA-1. To meet the demand for service, SCFD has forged a partnership with Medic Ambulance (Medic). Founded in 1979, Medic is a family-owned private ambulance company headquartered in Vallejo, California. For this reason, the ambulances serving EOA-1 will be branded “SCFD-EMS” and bear the logos of both SCFD and Medic.

  • EOA-1 contains much of central Sonoma County – from Penngrove to Larkfield and from Occidental to Kenwood. EOA-1 includes the cities of Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, Sebastopol, and Cotati, as well as the communities of Kenwood, Larkfield, Oakmont, Graton, Occidental, and Mark West Springs.

  • Medic’s contract with Sonoma County will mirror the Sonoma County EOA-1 contract. 5 years with a 5 year extension.

  • The operations center for EOA-1 is located at 1269A Corporate Center Parkway in Santa Rosa.

  • The SCFD-EMS ambulances will be strategically located at stations throughout EOA-1 to ensure ambulances can achieve response time goals.

  • Ambulance personnel serving EOA-1 are employees of Medic. Medic’s Sonoma County employees and SCFD personnel are both represented by the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 1401, Professional .
